As Amazon has grown it has received increased scrutiny, and there have been calls for it to spin off its cloud computing platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS) (Medium, CNBC, Vox, Investopedia). The date when the spinoff would take effect is immaterial to the resolution of this question.
