The rate of housing starts, a measure of new home construction in the US, has been in post-pandemic lows through the first seven months of 2024 (US News & World Report). The question will be suspended on 31 December 2024 and the outcome determined using data provided by the US Census Bureau as reported by the Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) database for December 2024, expected in January 2025 (FRED). As of the launch of this question, FRED reported that the annualized rate of US housing starts was 1,568 thousand in December 2023, or 1.568 million.
