Lieutenant Governor Edith Dumont, at the request of Ontario Premier Doug Ford, dissolved the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to make way for early elections, scheduled for 27 February 2025 (CBC). Ford said that he wants a strong mandate for himself and the Conservatives to fight President Trump's tariff threats against Canada (BBC, Guardian). As of the dissolution, there were 79 Conservatives in the 124-member body (Toronto Star).
