Aimee Stephens (formerly known as Anthony Stephens) worked as a funeral director at R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes, Inc. After she informed the Funeral Home’s owner and operator that she intended to transition from male to female, she was terminated (Oyez, Case Text). Stephens filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), which eventually led to her prevailing at the Sixth Circuit (SCOTUSBlog). The former employer filed this appeal (Supreme Court). The Supreme Court is expected to hand down its decision in its 2019 term, but if it does not, the question will close as no. If the Court decides this case without addressing this question's particular issue of law, the question will close as no.
