The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal, which sets rules for trade between the United States and eleven other nations in the Asia-Pacific region, was signed in February 2016 (Ballotpedia). In recent months, the deal has come under scrutiny as both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton criticized the effects of free trade on American manufacturing (NY Times). President Obama hopes the deal will be ratified before the end of his term, but Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell has ruled out a vote during the Obama presidency (Wall Street Journal, Washington Post). Recommended Questions Will negotiations on a China-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) free trade agreement be completed before 1 October 2017? Will negotiations on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) be completed before 1 January 2017?
