On 23 October 2023, energy firms Chevron and Hess Corporation announced the former would acquire the latter in an all-stock deal valued at $53 billion, which the two expect "to close in the first half of 2024" subject to Hess shareholder approval (Chevron, AP). The question would close early if both Chevron and Hess announce that they have called off the acquisition.
