When will Sébastien Lecornu cease to be the prime minister of France?
Closing Jul 01, 2026 07:01AM UTC
After submitting his resignation the day after naming a cabinet, staying on as a caretaker prime minister, and being reappointed as prime minister by French President Macron, Lecornu survived two October 2025 no-confidence votes in short succession as the budget fight that took down his predecessor continues (BBC, Radio France Internationale, France 24). The question will close as of Lecornu actually ceasing to be prime minister, and submitting his resignation to the President of the Republic but staying on as a caretaker prime minister alone will not count (Deutsche Welle). In other words, the resignation must be accepted by the President of the Republic and effectuated to count.
