In the NFL, the order in which teams make draft picks after the season is over is dependent on how teams performed in the previous season, with the worst performer "earning" the first pick (NFL - Rules of the Draft). The question will be suspended on 3 January 2026 if still open and the outcome determined using open-source reporting. Whether the team that "earns" the first overall draft pick ultimately trades that pick to another team is immaterial.
