The FAO Food Price Index was introduced in 1996 to track price changes in five general food commodity groups: meat, dairy, cereals, vegetable oils, and sugar (FAO - Food Price Index Explainer). The question will be suspended on 31 May 2026 and the outcome determined using nominal data reported by the FAO for May 2026, expected in early June 2026 (FAO - Food Price Index, see table near bottom of page). As of the launch of this question, the value for the Meat Price Index for May 2025 was 122.8. To download historical nominal data, click "Excel: Nominal and real indices from 1990 onwards (monthly and annual)" under "Download datasets" and see the "Indicies_Monthly" sheet.
