Will the Writers Guild of America (WGA) announce that it has begun a labor strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) before 2 June 2026?
Closing Jun 02, 2026 07:01AM UTC
The WGA's contract with the AMPTP, a trade group that represents studios and streamers, is scheduled to expire on 1 May 2026 (Deadline, WGA, AMPTP). The last WGA strike took place in 2023, and it lasted several months until terms for a new contract were approved by the WGA membership (USA Today). The WGA is actually a pair of unions—Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) and Writers Guild of America West (WGAW)—and a strike by either will count. The question will close "No" upon the ratification of a new contract or contract extension to replace the expiring contract through and including 1 June 2026.
