As part of a pay package approved by Tesla shareholders in November 2025, CEO Elon Musk could earn as much as $1 trillion in compensation if a series of ambitious goals are reached, which include both market capitalization levels and operational milestones (CNBC, Yahoo [Fortune]). The first market capitalization threshold is $2 trillion, which would also require Tesla reaching one of the operational milestones to trigger the first tranche of shares being issued to Musk (SEC - Tesla 2025 CEO Performance Award Agreement). The closing market capitalization needs only to take place at a single point in time, irrespective of the market capitalization calculations in Musk's pay package. The question will be suspended on 10 June 2027 if still open and the outcome determined using data and reporting from CNBC (CNBC, see "Market Cap").
