Tensions between China and Japan have risen considerably in the latter half of 2025 (Newsweek, NPR, Chosun Daily). For the purposes of this question, "diplomat" means the head of mission or any member of the "diplomatic staff" as governed by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (e.g., embassies) or consular official or any member of the "consular staff" as governed by the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (UN - Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, see Article 9, UN - Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, see Article 23). If/When the diplomat actually leaves the country is immaterial.
