California has a nonpartisan primary system (aka the "voter-nominated" system or "jungle primary"), where all candidates regardless of political affiliation are on the same ballot, and the candidates who finish first and second face each other in the general election in November (California Secretary of State). The California primary is scheduled for 2 June 2026 (California Secretary of State - 2026 Primary Election).
