The US saw its highest annual number of measles cases in the 21st century last year, totaling 2,144 as of 13 January 2026 (ABC News, CBS News). The question will be suspended on 31 December 2026 if still open and the outcome determined using data as provided by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) when first available for all of 2026 (CDC, see "U.S. Cases" table). In the event of ambiguity as to when 3,500 cases were reached, data from the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS) will be used to ascertain when the threshold was reached (CDC Stacks, see both "Indigenous" and "Imported," which are reported separately).
