Before 1 January 2027, will the Paris Court of Appeal rule that Marine Le Pen is eligible to run for the French presidency in 2027?

National Rally leader Marine Le Pen appeared in a French court of appeals in January 2026 for a trial that will determine whether a lower court's imposition of a five-year ban on Le Pen holding public office should be lifted (Politico, Euronews, France 24). The court suspending the ban pending appeal, shortening the duration of the ban so that she will be eligible to run for president in 2027, overturning the conviction, or otherwise enabling her to run will count. The verdict and sentence are expected by summer, and the question will close upon the court's decisions in the case (Guardian). Subsequent appeals are immaterial.
