While the Nicaraguan government faces sanctions and pressure from the U.S. government and others, Russia's ties with the Central American nation seem to remain strong (Costa Rica News, The Moscow Times, Kyiv Post, Washington Post). For the purposes of this question, a Russian senior government official is the head of state or an official listed as such by the Russian government (government.ru).
