While the number of illegal border crossings at the US' border with Mexico trended down in the summer of 2024, the matter remains a major political issue (CNN, ABC 7). The question will be suspended on 30 June 2025 and the outcome determined using data as reported by CBP for the calendar months of January 2025 through June 2025 once data for June 2025 are first reported (CBP). As of the launch of this question, CBP reported a total of 1,036,344 encounters in the US southwest between January 2024 and June 2024.
