Closed Oct 01, 2025 07:01AM UTC
The headline US unemployment rate, known as "U-3," measures the number of people in the labor force who don't have a job but are seeking employment, while "U-6" is a broader measure of the overall health of the labor market (Investopedia). The question will be suspended on 30 September 2025 and the outcome determined using the Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS') U-6 unemployment rate (U3) as reported by the Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) database when first released (FRED). As of the launch of this question, the September 2024 U-6 unemployment rate was reported as 7.7%.
