Bankruptcies in the US have ticked up in 2025, showing signs of stress among consumers and in the economy as a whole (CBS News, Newsweek). The question will be suspended on 31 March 2026 and the outcome determined using data as reported by the US federal courts (USCourts.gov - Caseload Statistics Data Tables, enter "F-2 (Three Months)" in the "Search by table number" field). In the report, see "Total" under "All Chapters" under "Nonbusiness." Between October 2024 and March 2025, a total of 250,597 nonbusiness bankruptcy filings were made with US bankruptcy courts, 122,182 in the fourth quarter of 2024 and 128,415 in the first quarter of 2025 (US Courts - Bankruptcy Table F-2 Quarterly Q4 2024, US Courts - Bankruptcy Table F-2 Quarterly Q1 2025). The site also provides monthly reports (search for "F-2 (One Month)").
