Will California hold an election in November 2025 for a ballot measure that would allow the state to bypass California Citizens Redistricting Commission (CCRC) and reset federal congressional districts for the 2026 congressional elections?
Closed Nov 04, 2025 08:01AM UTC
In response to Texas plans to redraw its congressional districts to be more favorable to Republican candidates for the US House of Representatives, California Governor Gavin Newsom has called on the state legislature to approve a ballot measure for November 2025 that would allow California to bypass the CCRC and redraw congressional district maps (NBC News, CNN, California Secretary of State - Redistricting, Ballotpedia). The question will close early upon the California Secretary of State announcing that a pertinent ballot measure cannot be eligible for the November 2025 vote, even with state legislative intervention regarding deadlines.
