President Trump's proposed fiscal year 2026 budget proposes cutting funding for dozens of space missions, including the Mars Sample Return mission (BBC, Planetary Society, NASA Mars Sample Return). The mission was already facing delays and concerns about cost (ABC News). The question is only concerned with a NASA mission, and the European Space Agency (ESA), participating with a different group than NASA will be immaterial. A postponement will be considered indefinite if there is no target date by which the mission would be planned to start or conclude.
