The Economist asks:
In National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) v. Federal Election Commission (FEC), will the Supreme Court rule that limits on coordinated party expenditures in 52 U.S.C. § 30116 violate the First Amendment, either on their face or as applied to party spending in connection with "party coordinated communications"?
Closing Jul 01, 2026 07:01AM UTC
The NRSC sued the FEC over a federal statute that limits election campaign expenditure coordination between party committees and candidates for office (Federal Election Commission). The Sixth Circuit upheld the limits, and the Supreme Court subsequently agreed to hear the case (Politico, SCOTUSblog). The Supreme Court is expected to hand down its decision in its 2025 term, but if it does not, the question will close as "No." If the Court decides this case without addressing this question's particular issue or issues of law, the question will close as "No."
