When will Market-Wide Circuit Breakers (MWCB) be triggered and halt trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)?

As enthusiasm over artificial intelligence investment drives up stock prices and concentrates value in a few stocks, there are concerns for a major market correction or even a crash (Guardian, Yahoo [24/7 Wall St.]). The NYSE has procedures in place to halt trading if the value of the S&P 500 Index falls by certain percentages in a given trading day, with the first threshold being 7% and the last threshold being 20% (NYSE - MWCB FAQ, Investor.gov). The triggering will only count if trading is actually halted, though the duration of the halt in trading is immaterial. MWCBs were last triggered in March 2020 amid the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic (Investopedia - Circuit Breaker).
