Will Uber operate a commercial ride-hailing service in the US open to the public that uses a Lucid Gravity robotaxi before 1 January 2027?
Closing Jan 01, 2027 08:01AM UTC
Companies Uber, Lucid Motors, and Nuro revealed their collaborative robotaxi at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show, stating that testing has already begun and they intend to launch it in San Francisco sometime in 2026 (Tech Crunch, CNET, Lucid). The question will be suspended on 31 December 2026 if still open and the outcome determined using information as reported by Uber and open-source reporting. The commercial service must not involve backup drivers physically in the vehicles to count, and service must involve payment to count. A service available by invite only will not count, but a service where the public may sign up to become eligible to use the service will count.
