With the detection of the New World screwworm in Mexico in late 2024, the US has had an on-again, off-again ban on the imports of live cattle and certain other animals from Mexico in order to prevent the reintroduction of the parasite to the US (Drovers.com, USDA, Yahoo [Reuters], KJZZ). The lifting of the ban must take effect to count, and the mere announcement of a plan to lift the ban alone will not count. The importation of live cattle for noncommercial purposes (e.g., research and study) will not count. The lifting of the ban with limits or quotas will count.
