Challenges
After four months in her current position as prime minister and leader of the LDP, Sanae Takaichi called for the dissolution of the House of Representatives, and new elections are expected on 8 February 2026 (AP, Nippon). In the 2024 election, the LDP lost its majority with only 191 of the 465 seats in the House of Representatives (Edelman).
