MLB has openly discussed expanding with at least two new professional baseball franchises (Fox Sports, Yahoo [Sportsnaut], Sports Illustrated). The geographic name chosen is immaterial (e.g., "Utah Kookaburras" vs "Salt Lake City Kookaburras"), and the exact location where home games will be played is immaterial (e.g., the NFL's NY Giants and NY Jets play in New Jersey, but they are considered "New York" teams). A "shared" franchise will count if one of the named cities is set to be a host (e.g., the Kansas City-Omaha Kings Omaha Magazine). The last two MLB teams created were the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (now simply the Rays) and Arizona Diamondbacks (UPI). The question will close as of MLB announcing the locations for at least two new franchises or MLB officially announcing that no locations for new franchises will be announced before 1 July 2028.
