The Economist asks:
Before 1 October 2026, will Israel publicly announce or acknowledge that all IDF ground forces have left the Gaza Strip?
Closing Oct 01, 2026 07:01AM UTC
As a fragile ceasefire continues with sporadic fighting, the future of control of Gaza remains up in the air (BBC, Atlantic Council, NBC News). The question is concerned with the whole of the Gaza Strip, that being the territory known as the Gaza Strip captured by Israel in the Six-Day War of 1967. Israel must publicly announce or acknowledge that all IDF ground forces have left the whole of the Gaza Strip to close the question. "All IDF ground forces" includes all individuals who are under IDF command, excluding those captured, missing, or remaining in the Gaza Strip for reasons other than IDF deployment.
