When will the US president and Nicolás Maduro next hold a virtual or in-person meeting?
Closing Jan 25, 2026 08:01AM UTC
As the US military buildup in the Caribbean grows, President Trump told reporters that Maduro is interested in talks about the situation in Venezuela (NBC News, Guardian). A meeting held virtually (e.g., phone call, video call) or in concert with another event (e.g., OAS event) will count so long as discussion occurs between the two leaders among themselves and their own respective entourages (e.g., staff and translators), and a meeting with a US president holding the position in an acting capacity will count. The meeting must be acknowledged by both the US and Venezuelan governments to count.
