Elections Alberta, the provincial agency in charge of elections for Alberta, announced that proponents of a citizen initiative asking if Alberta "should cease to be a part of Canada to become an independent state" were cleared to collect signatures to get their question on the ballot (Calgary Journal, Elections Alberta). The question will be suspended on 1 May 2026 if still open and the outcome determined using reports and announcements from Elections Alberta (Elections Alberta - News).
