Will Nippon Steel Corporation's (NSC's) acquisition of US Steel close before 1 January 2025?

On 18 December 2023, NSC and US Steel announced the former would acquire the latter in an all-cash deal valued at about $15 billion, which the two expect "to close in the second or third quarter of calendar year 2024" subject to US Steel shareholder approval (US Steel, BBC). The question would close early if both NSC and US Steel announce that they have called off the acquisition.
